Himalayan Gardens June 2019
A small cake-loving group of members enjoyed an afternoon at the Himalayan Gardens, Riverhill, Sevenoaks. After delicious tea and cakes, we took a walk around these beautiful gardens, set on the hillside. The gardens were first laid out in 1840 when bought by John Rogers for its fine views across the Weald of Kent and the acidic soil, perfect for growing newly-discovered species of rhododendron and azalea brought back from the Himalayas. Riverhill remains a family garden, home to four generations of the Rogers family, all passionate about its history and restoration. To aid our digestion we walked up to the viewpoint for fantastic views of the Weald as far as Goudhurst to the East and Ashdown Forest to the West.
